Ladies’ stellar start

Deniliquin had wins in both divisions in ladies’ pennant on Friday.

In Division One the local ladies claimed two rinks to take an overall win by 30 shots, 86 to 56.

Jill Grimshaw, Jenny Tonta, Brenda Leetham and Robyn Little had a shaky start being five down at the sixth end, but after a ‘one’, ‘three’ and ‘five’ on the following three ends took the lead.

They drew further ahead as the game progressed ending the day 15 shots up, 34 to 19.

Fay Munnerley, Joanne Bovell, Joy McArthur and Helen Anderson were all square at the fifth end but scored well on the remaining ends to card a 16-shot win 30 to 14.

Vicki O’Keefe, Lynne Smith, Dawn McCulloch and Caryn Hillier were unlucky after leading for most of the game, losing the last four ends to show a deficit of one shot, 22 to 23.

This Friday Division One travel to Rochester.

Division Three had a close game with Tongala, winning overall by three shots on Friday.

Maureen King, Maxine Norton, Rosie Jukes and Joan Gamble had a hard day on the greens against a strong Tongala side, going down 18 to 29.

Barbara Berry, Joy Mann, Lorraine Tasker and Janice Hattwell played well taking the lead from the second end and pulling further away as the game progressed.

The final score of 30 to 16 was enough to give Deni the overall win.

This Friday Division Three travel to Kyabram Valley View.

The teams are as follows: Barbara Berry(s), Joy Mann, Glenys Chessells and Janice Hattwell; Caryn Hillier (s), Maureen King, Toni Brooksby and Maxine Norton.

Skippers cars to leave at 8am.

A big welcome goes out to returned bowler Janice Hattwell and new bowler Lorraine Tasker.
