In the GVCA Golf Croquet pennant competition last week the Deni Diamonds were defeated in a close match, six games all and 76 hoops to 71 in favour of Echuca/Moama Greens.

The Gems had the bye.

On October 12 the Deni Gems travel to Rich River and the Diamonds are at home to Shepparton.

Last Sunday only nine players showed up for croquet.

Andy Davis was the only three game winner on the day with a terrific score of 33 hoops.

Heather Douglas and Dors Peterson scored 24 hoops despite losing one game.

Gwen Pearn and Dors Peterson each ran a handy hoop-in-one and Andy Davis managed three successful jump shots to help him score well.

The fifth round of the Challen Cup will be played on Sunday. All players are encouraged to take part.

Eleven players took part in croquet on Wednesday. There were two three-game winners with Lorraine Honeyman winning the day with 23 hoops followed closely by Megan Tonta with 22.

Two players with good scores despite only winning two games were John James on 22 hoops and Heather Douglas with 21.

There were two jump shots for the day with Mary James and John Tainsh each having one.

The shot of the day went to Lorraine Honeyman. Lorraine hit a ball from the boundary, a long distance from the hoop, and managed to just tip the ball in front to put it through for an amazing ‘in-off’.

Players are reminded that croquet play will be 9am for 9.30am start this coming Wednesday. This is due to the High School students coming back to play in the afternoons.

The club would also like to thank the 15 volunteers who prepared the salads last Thursday and Friday for the Lawn Tennis Club’s souvlaki stall at the Ute Muster.
